Women’s Cocktails For Celebrating International Working Woman’s Day - Posted: March 5th, 2009

International Working Woman’s Day is coming up on March 8th (typically the first day of spring for many countries), celebrating the professional and social achievements of women everywhere. While it’s more a day for taking pride (the U.N. designated it to highlight political and human rights themes) than one for getting soused, it should make a nice reason for celebrating an evening of cocktails with your similarly hardworking friends.
Whether you hit an upscale spot or host an all-ladies party at home, these drinks should figure in nicely in your repertoire.
Strawberry Dusk
This is a simple and elegant drink, perfect for an evening with empowered women on board. To make it, pour strawberry syrup on the bottom of a stemmed glass, making sure the surface is covered without undue thickness. Once done, fill it as desired with sparkling wine and drop one strawberry into it. Make sure to let the strawberry linger until the wine is finished - it will absorb the liquor’s aroma and turn into a really special treat.
Kir Royale
Similarly easy to make, this one offers a little more daring flavor but proves equally as classy a drink to sip on. To make it, pour one teaspoon each of cherry syrup and crimson liqueur into a stemmed glass. Take the glass by the stem and roll it to spread the syrupy mix along its walls. Once done, pour champagne into the glass and serve.
