The Disaronno Amaretto is arguably the world’s favorite Italian liqueur. Gifted with a hint of loving flavor, it is one of the most romantic cocktail ingredients with an equally heart-warming story to boot.

According to legend, the Disaronno found its beginnings from the kitchen of a young widow who found romance in the arms of Milanese artist Bernadino Luini during the Renaissance Period. Story has it that Bernadino commissioned the young woman to model for a fresco he was making of the Madonna. After spending months laboring over the work, they fell passionately in love. The woman created the sweet almond liqueur as a sign of her devotion for her newfound lover.

Strawberry Kiss

Sweet and innocent-looking, this luscious cocktail is as smooth as it is tasty. Nothing says romance like a tender kiss and this drink packs it in spades. To make it, pile an ounce of Disaronno,an ounce and a half of Bacardi, thick cream and fresh strawberries into a blender. Run it till smooth, pour into a stemmed glass and garnish with fresh strawberry slices.

This layered drink is great for shots and takes you from one sweet flavor to another without breaking the train of goodness. Easy to make and easy to drink, prepare your own by pouring equal parts each of brown creme de cacao, Disaronno Amaretto and Amarula Cream.

I love this drink’s color and I actually used to make this for Christmas. However, it works just as well for a Valentine’s cocktail. Make sure to tidy up the preparations a bit by serving it in a nice, stemmed glass. To make it, mix an ounce each of aged rum, Disaronno Amaretto and De Kuper Blue Curacao. Top up the with fresh pineapple juice to finish up the fruity yet equally warming drink.
