Quick And Stiff Superbowl Drinks - Posted: January 26th, 2009

During the heat of play on the Steelers vs Cardinals game come next weekend’s SuperBowl Sunday, the last thing you want to do is take time off from watching to mix a new batch of drinks. These cocktails should prove easy enough to put together that you can probably concoct a whole batch while staying glued to the set. If you need the undivided attention, try putting them together during timeouts and commercial breaks.
The False Start
According to football fan lore, this drink is a bad way to start watching a football game, as it can leave you soused for the rest of the show. That never stopped most any football fan I know, though. To make it, pour 2 ounces of apple cider, one ounce of bourbon, half an ounce of brandy and squeeze some lemon juice into a rocks glass then top with ice. It tastes wrong but it feels so right.
Tequila Timeout
This recipe came from Herradura Tequila and girls who love to watch games with us swear by it. To make this time-stopping cocktail, pour ice and two ounces of Tequila Herradura Silver on a ball glass. Add salt, lemon juice and grapefruit soda to taste. Throw in a slice of lemon or olives for garnish. Leaves you relaxed even in terse moments.
Quarterback Sack
Taken in shots, you’d want to mix a batch of this to save time. For four shot glass servings, mix two ounces of gin, two ounces of vodka, an ounce of Triple Sec, four ounces of pre-made Bloody Mary mix and top with tonic water. You can always make more to have handy and just pour while the game unfolds to your heart’s content.
