St. Patrick’s Day Cocktails - Posted: March 16th, 2009

What are you drinking on St. Patrick’s Day? Even if you’re not in Ireland, celebrating the country’s national day should prove just as exciting with a couple of Irish-themed cocktails in tow. I know a lot of folks around my parts will be downing either one of these two. Learn them, mix them and drink them - and get in the jolly green spirit of the celebration.
Irish Martini
Simple and straightforward, this is a regular tasty martini laced with the flavor of Irish whiskey, making it a St. Patty’s Day favorite. To make it, put two ounces of vodka and half an ounce of dry vermouth into a cocktail shaker with ice, shaking vigorously.
Take a chilled cocktail glass and pour half an ounce of Irish whiskey, swirling it around to let the drink coat the sides. Strain the cocktail shaker into the same cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist. Great flavor and with just the hint of color to make it stand out.
Irish Whip
This one’s a rich drink that will tickle your taste buds with an explosion of varied flavors. Not really an Irish drink, it has evolved into a St. Patrick’s Day favorite because of its green color.
To make it, take a pint glass filled with ice cubes about a quarter of the way. Pour an ounce of vodka, an ounce of Pernod, an ounce of rum (Cuban rum like Bacardi preferable) and an ounce of creme de menthe into the glass. Top it up with equal parts 7-Up and orange juice. Refreshing and tasty, you might end up refilling a couple of times.
