The Best Obama Cocktails - Posted: January 21st, 2009

With the inauguration over, I think it’s a good time to look at all the Obama cocktails we’ve seen concocted by mixologists all over the country. I first noticed the trend last year during the run-up to the elections and really hit the fan during his victory with almost every other bar we visit having their own version of an Obama drink.
Here are two of our most favorite cocktails mixed in honor of one of the most celebrated presidential candidates in recent memory.
The Chosen One
This drink was created by Susan Goetcheus and incorporates elements of Obama’s life. She mixes it with equal parts Kahlua (to represent his Hawaiian heritage), Godiva white chocolate liqueur (for his mixed ancestral heritage) and Absolut Mandarin (for the time he spent in Indonesia). A dash of whiskey is added for extra taste (not to mention, to give it a manly touch). Mix all drinks to follow Obama’s dream to see Americans come together as a nation and serve with an orange twist.
Ciroc Obama
This is a drink that refreshes without tasting too sweet - just like the new president. To make it, pour two ounces of grape-distilled Ciroc vodka, an ounce of Chambord for the tinge of raspberry and top up with lemonade and ice. Add grape sugar to the rim of the glass for a sweet tingle and a lemon round for garnish. Fruity yet subtle - just the way it should be.
