Getting Ready For March Madness - Posted: March 1st, 2009

By BoozeMonger

March is upon us and for sports fans, it’s time for the Big Dance - three weeks of unrelenting college basketball action at its finest. Since its inception in 1939, March Madness has been one of the most exciting events for college basketball fans and sports enthusiasts in general.

Whether you’re cheering for your college to win or just enjoying the spirited action we’ve come to expect from NCAA competition, enjoying it with chips, dips and a few of your favorite cocktails should prove a worthwhile way to spend a day with friends. I know I’ll be plopped down in front of my brand new, spanking-ass HDTV, enjoying stiff gulps with my buddies all throughout that action!

If you’ve been thinking up ideas of what to make for the games, here are a couple mixes you may want to try.

March Madness On Crack

Contrary to the name, there’s no drugs in this drink - it’s just that damn strong it can drive you in a frenzy. Now that we have that settled, it’s time to make one. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and pour in the following: an ounce and a half of vodka, an ounce of triple sec, an ounce of peach Schnapps, four ounces of Amp (energy drink) and three ounces of Powerade. Vigorously mix the concoction and strain into a highball glass. You’ll be awake, recharged, energized and drunk all in one sitting.

The Pain Killer

This one numbs the pain of your favorite team getting the shaft. Start making one as soon as you see the opponent piling on the lead, with no seeming way for your boys to recover. It’s better than waiting for the game to finish while rooting for a team that’s 30 points behind.

On a shaker filled with ice, put in an ounce of coconut rum, an ounce of vodka, an ounce of pineapple juice, half an ounce of fresh lime juice and an ounce of orange juice. Strain into a glass and garnish with nutmegs (or don’t bother, you’re hurting after all). Numbing and delicious, it should take some of the pain away.
