Hot Chocolate Recipes With a Difference - Posted: October 20th, 2008

By Michael Bridges (Contributing BoozeMonger.com Writer)

Nothing warms you up better on a cold frosty day then a good cup of hot chocolate. There are any number of great hot chocolate recipes around. Hot chocolate recipes that not only warm you up, but also taste sinfully good. Hot chocolate recipes that include cinnamon, whipped cream, mint, fruit and even alcohol.

Hot chocolate has a long history starting with an Aztec drink called xocoatl. The drink was introduced to the Europeans by Hernan Cortez. The Spaniards added a sweetener to the drink, they had difficulty pronouncing xocoatl and changed the name of the drinke to chocolat. The English later change the name to chocolate. It is unknown who started warming the drink and named it hot chocolate, but I for one am glad they did.

The hot chocolate recipes I want to show you are different from any you may of heard of. These are somewhat unusual like hot chocolate with chili pepper. Don’t let the unusual nature of these hot chocolate recipes keep you from trying them.

By Garry Wynters (Contributing BoozeMonger.com Writer)

It is the weekend again and it is a real miserable day here in Barbados. It hasn’t stopped raining hard for about 2 hours and I need cheering up real bad. So later on this evening I plan on listening to some good music and having a few cocktails in the comfort of my own home.

I will wait until the kid has gone to bed then create some romantic ambiance with some candles, relaxing music and of course the way to most girls’ hearts - some delicious cocktails, followed by whatever the mood may create!

Here are three Cocktail recipes:

The Quick Guide to Absinthe - Posted: October 17th, 2008

By Dave J. Davies (Contributing BoozeMonger.com Writer)

A history, how to make it, and where to find it now

Absinthe. Edgar Allen Poe wrote about it. Vincent van Gogh’s paintings expressed his enjoyment of it. Julius Verne, Ernest Hemingway, and even Leonardo DiCaprio indulged in it.

Absinthe, a strong alcoholic drink with a mix of herbs, from the Artemisia absinthium plant, has been popular throughout history. Dr. Pierre Ordinaire appears to have been the inventor, creating the drink in 1792. However, there are documents that say a manufacturer was making it in the 1750’s. While who and when the drink was made is not clearly known, what is true is that the Pernod Fils Absinthe company went into production in 1852 and helped to promote the Absinthe drink throughout Europe and other continents.

The drink did become very popular, perhaps made even more famous because of the many artists and writers who have attributed part of the success of their work to the drink. However, the erratic behavior of such famous people (such as Van Gogh cutting his ear off and sending it to a lover) became a focal point and it was banned in certain countries in the early 1900’s.
